Duties

Help

Supports the development and coordination of bilateral aviation safety agreements with foreign governments.

Coordinates and negotiates new agreements among Department of Transportation, State, and other US Government agencies, and industry.

Participates in meetings and conferences with high-level officials of foreign governments and industry regarding FAA certification procedures and policies; interacts with foreign and industry officials to facilitate the reciprocal acceptance of aeronautical products.

Prepares evaluation reports, briefing materials, and recommendations on complex foreign affairs activities and accomplishments.

Plans and facilitates small work groups to address special projects or to resolve complex problems related to foreign affairs activities.

Analyzes the effectiveness of existing aviation safety policy and make recommendations for improvements.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

  1. Degree: major or equivalent, or a combination of courses totaling at least 24 semester hours, in international law and international relations, political science, economics, history, sociology, geography, social or cultural anthropology, law, statistics, or in the humanities; or 12 semester hours in one of the above disciplines and 12 semester hours in statistics/quantitative methods.

    OR

  2. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major, or a combination of related courses totaling at least 24 semester hours, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

    OR

  3. Experience: four years of appropriate experience in one or more of the fields listed above in work associated with international organizations, problems, or other aspects of foreign affairs.

In addition to the above requirements, ALL applicants must also meet the SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to FG/GS-12 or FV-H in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower grade in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Specialized Experience for this position is defined as:

  • Experience analyzing the effectiveness of existing aviation safety policies.
  • Experience preparing evaluation reports, briefing materials, or recommendations on foreign affairs activities.

**Specialized experience must be reflected in the work history section of the resume. Failure to do so will result in a rating of 'not eligible'.
