FG-6 - Serves as an Aviation Safety Assistant in a Flight Standards field office. Provides administrative and semi-technical support to the Aviation Safety Inspectors by obtaining background data, preparing reports, reviewing applications, interviewing applicants, processing certificates, and maintaining technical and administrative files. Processes FAA-issued airman certificates such as ground instructor, flight instructor, mechanic repairman, and flight engineer. Interviews applicants to determine qualifications for non-complex certificates. Processes FAA authorizations, such as inspection authorization, aircrew program designee and aerobatic competency. Processes FAA issued operator and air agency certificates such as air carrier, repair stations and approved schools. Examines applications and supporting documents for completeness, consistency of information and assures correction, if needed.
FG-7 - Operates as an Aviation Safety Assistant in a Flight Standards field office. Provides administrative and semi-technical related support to the supervisor, or manager, Aviation Safety Inspectors, and Administrative Officer by utilizing advanced automation system tools relevant in the Safety Assurance System environment which includes, but is not limited to obtaining background data, preparing reports, reviewing applications, interviewing applicants, processing certificates, and maintaining technical and administrative files. Responsible for processing temporary airman certification files for certificates issued by designated examiners. Examines applications and supporting documents for completeness, consistency of information and fulfillment of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) requirements. Assures correction, if required. Monitors and tracks returned files.
To qualify for this position at the FG-6 level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level of a FG/GS-5 or FV-C work in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and this is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience may include but not limited to: performing a variety of clerical work such as preparing reports, researching background data, reviewing and analyzing information, interpreting directives, examining documents for accuracy and completeness, entering and retrieving information from a variety of automated systems, and explaining administrative requirements and processes to customers. There is no substitution of education at this grade.
To qualify for this position at the FG-7 level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level of a FG/GS-6 or FV-D work in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and this is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
