The incumbent performs a variety of writing and editing duties in support of the Airworthiness & Technical Communications Branch, Aircraft Certification Service (AIR). Primarily, the incumbent develops transport airworthiness directives (AD) that (1) involve the most complex regulatory or technological concepts, practices, and policies; (2) are significant, unusual, or controversial; or (3) involve program ADs or those on the TAD business plan. The incumbent assists the branch manager and the AD program manager in facilitating the overall AD program by (1) informing him/her of difficulties in technical, policy, or legal application of policy or by convening meetings of the parties; (2) providing day-to-day training related to AD drafting concepts and processes to less experienced technical writer-editors and technical support assistants to ensure that documents conform to established formats, procedures, policies, and guidance; (3) participating in activities related to improving the format and quality of service information used in ADs; and (4) coordinating AD issues with appropriate FAA offices to ensure that ADs are developed and issued expeditiously and on schedule. The incumbent ensures effective and expeditious handling of all documents and information and advises the branch manager of the status of projects through written and oral communications.

To qualify at the FV-Ilevel you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-H, FG/GS-12 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes: Experience as a writer or editor of Airworthiness Directives (ADs), technical reports, articles or manuals related to ADs, or of legal, regulatory, or other governmental documents related to ADs.
THERE IS NO EDUCATION SUBSTITUTE FOR THE FV-I.
